Mind Control, Media Control?

 MIND CONTROL, MEDIA CONTROL?

"He who controls the media, controls the mind"

Back in the day, when the first Amendment of the Constitution was put into place - freedom of speech was born, thereby giving us the right to express any opinion without censorship or restraint.
Being able to let words roll off of your tongue without having to second guess your thoughts could possibly be one of the greatest perks this century has experienced.
And then, Social Media was born.
Social media has become a one stop shop for many; keeping up with current events, celebrity gossip, a journal, a tool to grow business and most importantly a sanctuary where freedom of speech could be utilized as a shield protecting them from the consequences of their words.

Sites such as Facebook and Twitter have made a more conscious effort to regulate the content posted on their platform, by releasing a list of guidelines that are ethically correct and what is not morale.
Facebook had received backlash for banning a Vietnam war image due their regulations, later having to backtrack their decision.
Meanwhile, Twitter has found the perfect recipe. In October users came across a “muted words” feature on Twitter. This option allowed users to create a list of unwanted words and phrases that they did not want to see on their timeline still leaving them available for others to see.

Media Control majorly questions the smudged line between protecting users with censorship and still allowing individuals to express themselves freely.

In the era of ever growing technology, the media plays an eminent role in shaping our perspective towards social websites, people, the government and everything in between.
The media is responsible for keeping us on our toes with what's happening round the world- from politics, to sports, music, cultures, and much more.
There are several incidents where the media turns merciless, thereby smudging the line between sanity and information.
The government that controls media houses control tongues indirectly, by only glorifying what they believe is right.
A responsible Media is such that shows the naked truth, and leaves it to sit up to us to choose wisely.
Thereby it's important, we do not blindly trust what we are shown, and hunt for truth hidden in the shadows beneath the fancy curtains of lies.
